EP 98 Gregory Goss: A Once Reluctant Mowglis Man

Greg Goss

 "I don't want to go . . ."

Those were the words of Greg Goss at his grandmother's home in Alexandria, NH only minutes before they would leave to drop him at Mowglis. The next day he rescued half his team from jail in capture the flag and became the hero and mascot to campers from Toomai to Den and he was forever changed.

Greg came to Mowglis in 1975 and graduated from the Den in 1979 having been on Racing Crew, The Mount Washington Squad, The Inner Circle (in Akela!) and earning his coveted Wolf's Paw, along with his BFF/BMF Caleb White. (Their Cardigan solo was with Tripmaster Wayne King)

Largely due to the influence of Mowglis and the love he developed for the mountains of New Hampshire he became a member of the 4000 Footer Club in the 2010s.

Grandmother Ruth & Grandfather Roger Turnbull lived in Alexandria
Mother Judy was raised there.
Cousin Steve Turnbull: Started in 1970 and was in Den 1974
Cousins James and Tim Gleason

Uncle Jack Turnbull was the first member of the Mowglis family

Started in Toomai in 1975, Den 1979

Remembers his first day vividly.
Beginning with watching a tetherball game and then playing the winner.
He was the hero of his team in capture the flag the following day and he was sold on Mowglis forever.

Among the boys in his dorm: Jim Cohen, Tim Cole, Court and Chris Mulliken,  his cousin Tim Gleason and BFF Caleb White would join them the next year.

Gregg took to camping and hiking right away and has considered it an important part of his life ever since. Between 2000 and 2010 he climbed all the 4,000 footers.
